Is a boaters license required?

We HIGHLY recommend that you and all drivers of the boat obtain a pleasure craft operator’s card before the rental, although it is not mandatory.

If you cannot obtain a pleasure craft operators card prior to your rental, not to worry!  All we require is a valid Drivers License and renters (must be 21 years of age or older) can complete a Boaters Safety Checklist (Canadian Coast Guard Approved) which acts as a temporary boating license for the duration of the rental.  Cost for this is $25 cash at time of delivery.

Remember that you and all drivers must be at least 19 years of age (or 21 years of age if using the Boaters Safety Checklist as your temporary license) and have a valid driver’s license.

How far in advance should I reserve my rental?
With high demand booking 3-5 days in advance is recommended to ensure you get the boat you want.

Do you require a deposit?

A 25% deposit is required for any advanced reservation. Full payment is required 72 hours prior to the booked pickup/delivery date.

No deposit is required if renting the boat the same day as pickup/delivery but must be paid in full.

When is payment due?

Payment for reservation deposit is due at time of booking.

Final Payment is required 72 hours before the pickup/delivery which includes damage deposit. An email will be sent out 4 days before with full payment reminder.

We accept Visa & Mastercard.

We can also accept payments through PayPal.
What is your cancellation policy?

If a cancellation is requested 14 days or more before the booking date then a full refund or an account credit will be issued, which ever the customer requests.

If the cancellation request falls between 72 hours  to 13 days notice of a rental the Non-Refundable Booking Deposit will be kept in your Island Time Rentals account and can be applied against a future rental invoice. Our rental day starts at 8:00am.

If notification is not received 72 hours prior to the first day of the rental no refund will be forthcoming.

Do you offer delivery?

Island Time Boat Rental offers delivery to 12 lakes on and around Manitoulin Island, see our services page for a list of the lakes.   If you are on a lake not mentioned on this and it has a boat launch send a message and we can provide a quote. There is a delivery charge for delivery.

What if there is inclement weather on my rental day?

In the case of unsafe weather conditions, as determined by Island Time Rentals staff (such as sustained high winds or lightning), Island Time reserves the right to refuse the rental because we feel it is unsafe to be out on the water. The rental may be rescheduled for another date. The deposit will automatically be applied to the new booking.  The booking may also be cancelled and a full refund will be issued.  This decision is at the sole discretion of the customer

Are life jackets provided?

Yes, we provide life jackets for adults and children. For parents with infants going on the pontoon boats, it may be best to bring your own for your infant. We recommend children and infants wear life jackets at all times, in addition to anyone who is not an experienced swimmer.

What's included with a fishing boat rental?
Fishing boats will be equipped with 2 fishing rods, basic tackle box, net and built in fish finder.  No bait is provided so plan accordingly.

What is considered a late return and is there a fee?

Boats must be picked up, and returned between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm, 7 days a week unless prearranged with Island Time staff.

– A late fee of $50.00 per half hour will be charged unless we are notified 24
hours prior to the scheduled drop-off time.

Delivery time will vary based on driver schedule but will be communicated beforehand.

Is there an age limit to rent a boat?

All renters must be 19 years of age if they have a pleasure craft operators card or 21 years of age with a valid drivers license if they require a temporary pleasure craft operators card.

The renter is responsible for anyone that drives the boat and all passengers.

Do I need to purchase Insurance

All boat rentals include full coverage insurance.  As per the terms and conditions you are still responsible for the deductible of $500 should you incur any damages.
